Anyone who has purchased affected shrimp should not consume the product, and you should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The FDA is investigating the reports of contamination in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products that were processed by BMS Foods of Indonesia.

The FDA explains that the primary health effect of concern is that repeated low-dose exposure to radioactive food or drink can lead to an elevated risk of cancer caused by damage to a person's DNA.
