NWS Warns Of Heat Indices In The Triple Digits For Duluth Area

Some people feel like summer is over after the Fourth of July holiday, since that is really the peak of summer here in the Duluth area. This might change your mind if you think that way, as we are about to see a major heat wave and it is going to be hot. This heat wave will hit the entire state of Minnesota but especially us here in the Northland.

I think I may have jinxed us all when I said on-air that I didn't put my air conditioner in the window and it never got any use this year. I jumped the shark on that one because it will definitely be needed this week, according to the National Weather Service of Duluth.

Northlanders can expect things to really start heating up on Tuesday (July 25th), with temperatures ranging the mid 70s to low 90s. It will only get warmer from there, with temperatures peaking in the upper 90s by Wednesday. Hot temperatures will linger into Thursday.

Like I said, if you never put your air conditioner in your window just yet, you may want to do that as soon as you can because this week is going to be miserable. Hot temperatures aside, it will actually feel even hotter thanks to the heat index.

If you're wondering just what a heat index is, it is the "apparent temperature" of what it feels like outside. The National Weather Service describes it like this:

The heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.

This certainly makes this heat wave a little bit scarier. Try to limit your time outdoors if you can and try to limit any intense physical activity outdoors. Leave your pups at home and do not bring them anywhere in the car. Of course, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Winter doesn't seem that bad right about now.
