Minnesotans, Have You Ever Received A Scam Call Like This?
You hear a lot about scams, especially now that election season is upon us. I never paid any mind to scams until I almost became a victim of one!
Just the other day, I received a phone call from a random number. Usually I don't answer calls with numbers that aren't in my phone but this number had called several times over the last few weeks. They never left a voicemail and mainly, I just wanted them to stop calling so I picked up.
The man on the other end of the line knew my name and told me that I had taken a survey earlier in the month regarding my financial benefits at work. He seemed legitimate enough but I write and read enough about scams to know that this was probably really fishy.
I told him I didn't take a survey and he was very insistent that I did. However, when I asked him what company I took a survey with, he said one I had never heard of before. When I called him out on this, he asked if I wanted a financial advisor, even though he has the "wrong number" - or so he said.
I told him to take me off his list and hung up and he was definitely caught off guard that I called him out on the scam. This was the first time anyone has ever tried to scam me and now I know why so many people fall victim to them. Has anyone else in the Twin Ports or Minnesota area received a call like this? Beware.
The most recent scam that has been reported in the area involves scammers pretending to be your local utility company and claiming they owe you a refund because you overpaid. This is a way for them to get your personal information.
