Buying a vehicle is an exciting time, but it can also be very stressful as you want to make sure you're picking a reliable vehicle and getting a fair deal.

Of course, there are plenty of online resources, such as Kelley Blue Book, that can help customers navigate this process, but those resources are worthless if you're dealing with a dishonest auto dealer.

That's the scenario that recently played out in Wisconsin, leading to an investigation of three wholesale auto dealers, who ultimately had their licenses revoked.

Wisconsin Department Of Transportation Takes Immediate Action

According to its news release, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) revoked the wholesale dealer licenses of three Columbia County dealers after a DMV’s Dealer and Agent Section investigation determined that each dealer violated state law.

The dealers were determined to be guilty of rolling back odometers on vehicles sold to customers, falsifying title documents when selling vehicles to customers, and selling vehicles directly to retail customers.

Due to the nature of the violations, the department immediately revoked each license effective May 22, 2024. Below are the wholesale dealers whose licenses were revoked:

  • A1 Alpha Motors, LLC
  • Signature Auto Group, Inc.
  • VIP Autos, LLC

The decision to revoke Signature Auto Group’s license was upheld at a WisDOT hearing on June 13, 2024. The decision to revoke A1 Alpha Motors’ and VIP Auto’s license was also upheld at a separate WisDOT hearing on June 14, 2024. Dealers are given 30 days to appeal a revocation. Neither wholesale dealer sought an appeal and the decisions are final.

It's worth noting that WisDOT’s Dealer and Agent Section licenses, regulates, and offers training to dealers. In addition, this special unit protects consumers by investigating complaints and resolving disputes about dealership sales and warranty repairs.

It also investigates complaints about odometer tampering and title fraud involving dealerships and private sellers in Wisconsin. Complaints can be made online by clicking the button above.
