Minnesota Twins Win 2019 A.L. Central Championship
It's official, the Minnesota Twins are the A.L. Central Division Champions! The Twins started the season hot and then hit their way through injuries and a depleted starting pitching staff to win the division over the red hot Cleveland Indians.
The Twins went into Wednesday with their magic number at 2 to win the division. That number went to 1 when the Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-1 in Detroit. Not long after, the Chicago White Sox defeated Cleveland 8-3 in Chicago, which made the Twins division title official. You can see the Twins locker room celebration below.
Now it's on to the postseason for Twins, who will face the #2 seed in the American League in a best of 5 game series. That means they will face either the New York Yankees or the Houston Astros on the road for game 1 on Friday, October 4. The #1 seed will face the winner of the American League Wild Card Playoff.
It was an unlikely season for the Twins who set a franchise record for home runs and brought excitement back to Target Field with a team of resilient, hard working players that were easy to root for under rookie manager Rocco Baldelli.
The Twins will be the underdog throughout the playoffs, and that's probably just fine by them. It's been a fun summer ride to get there no matter what happens.
