Minnesota Twins Unveil Bronze Statue of Longtime Mascot T.C.

The Twins may have lost 14-5 to Houston on Sunday, but it was still a special day.  The Minnesota Twins unveiled a life-sized bronze statue of longtime mascot T.C. prior to the tilt against the Houston Astros. The new statue, which is located on the 7th Street side Target Plaza near the box office, serves as a great photo opportunity for kids and adults alike.

The unveiling took place at 11:30 a.m. and was emceed by Twins in-game host Jim Cunningham, and featured special guests including Kent Hrbek, Tony Oliva, Ron Gardenhire and several young Twins fans.

“T.C. has been a fan favorite ever since he was introduced at the Metrodome in 2000,” said Joe Pohlad, Director of Twins Productions. “Since then, he has grown to become a significant part of the franchise and we’re proud to commemorate his contributions with this piece of public art that will forever live on Target Plaza.”

The T.C. statue becomes the eighth to reside outside the gates of Target Field. T.C. joins the likenesses of Kent Hrbek, Rod Carew, Calvin Griffith, Carl and Eloise Pohlad, Tony Oliva, Kirby Puckett and Harmon Killebrew. All of the statues at Target Field have been the work of Minnesota-based artist Bill Mack.

T.C., a native of Bear River, Minn., currently resides in White Bear Lake, Minn. He was signed by the Twins as free agent on April 3, 2000. He is widely recognized as one of the best-hitting mascots in Major League Baseball notching a record six victories in the All-Star Game Mascot Home Run Derby. He also leads the team in consecutive games with a current record of 1,100 consecutive games and counting.
