Many people live in Minnesota, and especially in the Duluth area, because of our access to nature and our outdoor recreation, right?
Outsiders may just think of Minnesota as being one of the coldest and most boring states but we are far from it. There is a ton to do, especially if you love being outside.

We are lucky to have so many great hiking trails, landmarks and lakes to keep us busy no matter the season. It's why we love summertime so much here!
It seems others are catching on because Minnesota was just named one of the top fifteen states for outdoor enthusiasts. However, I think we should be much higher.
Smile Hub Releases List Of The Best States For Outdoor Enthusiasts This Year
Smile Hub dropped this study on Tuesday (June 24th), naming the best states for outdoor enthusiasts. To make this list, analysts looked at things like environmental quality, air pollution, share of forest coverage and shoreline miles, among others.

Analysts also looked at the cost of hunting and fishing licenses in each state, hiking trails per capita, ski facilities per capita and so much more. Let's take a look at Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Minnesota Is The 12th Best State For Outdoor Enthusiasts
I definitely thought we'd be much higher but in this instance. Minnesota was named the 12th best state for outdoor enthusiasts. We really have it all and outdoor recreation for winter and warmer seasons, which can't be said for other states.

Minnesota has the third most sports and recreation charities per capita, which helped boost our spot on the list. Montana and Alaska scored the top two spots, which completely makes sense. What about Wisconsin?
Wisconsin came in at number 21 on the list, which is also surprising. I thought it would be much higher. Kentucky, Oklahoma and Mississippi are the worst states for outdoor enthusiasts. Better luck next year!
