Minnesota Sheriff's Office Warns Of USPS Text Scam

Another scam is circulating around Minnesota. This time it involves a text message and USPS.

The Roseau County Sheriff's Office issued a warning to residents about the new scam on their Facebook page recently, writing the following:

We’ve received several complaints from citizens from Roseau County regarding a text claiming to be from USPS (United States Postal Service) with package information. DO NOT open the link. Whoever sent the text is trying to get information from your phone.

While scams like this are nothing new in Minnesota and beyond, it is important to make note of them so you don't fall victim to any. Scammers are becoming more and more advanced, making scams like these seem more legitimate than they are.

The Roseau County Sheriff's Office also shared a screenshot of one of these fake texts. Take a look at it below:

There you have it - another simple scam that one could easily fall for. As mentioned, make sure you do not click on any links you may receive in any form, whether it be an email or a text message. If you think something looks fishy, it probably is.

Scammers have not slowed down during the pandemic, either. In fact, they are getting more and more creative with their ways throughout the last few months of COVID-19. For example, earlier this month, the Federal Trade Commission warned of a new scam involving WhatsApp and COVID-19. Scammers are posing as big name businesses, offering up free financial help in exchange for personal information. Sigh.
