Every week we check in with Animal Allies to talk about a pet of the week. Surprisingly, the last few weeks it's been all about dogs. In the years we've had the shelter as a guest, normally the problem has been too many pets. The pandemic is partly to blame for the shift of having too many dogs without homes.

Normally Animal Allies does well enough with adoptions that they are actually able to intake dogs from other shelters across the country to help save their lives and find them a home. However, this spring has been challenging with the number of strays and surrendered dogs coming in. Why?

Remember in 2020 when COVID-19 hit? People were stuck at home and many decided it was time to get a dog. Now a few years later, those people are having second thoughts about pet ownership and also may be giving up on some dogs with some behavioral problems.
