Animal Allies Shares Desperate Plea After Owner Abandons Dying Dog

This is just heartbreaking. I feel so bad for the volunteers at Animal Allies. They shared a distressing story and a plea to the public after a horrible situation occurred this week. Be warned, this is an upsetting story, but an important public service announcement that needs to be shared.

Dog Abandoned Experiencing Respiratory Issues

On July 1st, a woman came in to Animal Allies with a dog that was in distress. She demanded to surrender her dog and stated she wouldn't be leaving Animal Allies with the dog, even though that goes against the process. When you surrender a pet to Animal Allies, there is an intake process that ensures the safety of staff and the animals in its care.

It quickly became clear that the dog was experiencing severe respiratory distress. The owner said it was from anxiety from being in the car.

The Dog Trixie Was Actively Dying

Animal Allies staff told the owner that the dog appeared to be actively dying, and that they did not have a vet on site who could save her. They pleaded with the owner to take the dog "Trixie" back in the car and drive to the nearest vet, but the owner refused to do so.

Trixie then lost complete control of her bowels and began vomiting and defecating on herself on the lobby floor.

A Scramble To End Trixie's Suffering

It became clear the owner wasn't going to do anything, so they tried to quickly transfer legal ownership so they could end Trixie's suffering. A local vet stepped up and responded to help end her suffering.

As you can imagine, this was a very upsetting day for the staff at Animal Allies. They did not sign up for this kind of abuse. They thanked the hundreds of people who they see each week who are kind and respectful and understand the policies.

They will be reporting the situation to authorities.

Animal Allies also wants to remind the public that many dogs with short, flat faces and squashed skulls struggle to breathe. These high, humid temperatures can increase their respiratory struggle. Please keep a close eye on your pets this summer. Do not leave them unattended in a hot car for any duration of time.
