Minnesota Public Art Installation Up For International Award

A new art installation in an old building in Minnesota is up for an international design award.

The art installation is installed in the Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District, they say the "sculpture (is) designed to evoke the image of flour falling from a sifter in homage to one of the local historic industries" and is made from just about 200 strands of bronzed and stainless metallic square elements that are 100 ft in length hung within the atrium of the historic building.

The art installation is one of 100 nominees for the international CODAaward which recognizes projects that "integrate commissioned art into interior, architectural, or public spaces." The public is invited to vote for their favorite through June 30th. Winners will be announced on August 30th.

The $160,000 art project was finished in 2019 when the new hotel was open, it was designed by artists Shawn Trentlage, and Darcy Ferrill, both from the Trellage-Ferrill Studio, a team of Glass/Metal Artists & Architects that have been creating installations like this since 1999.

The award is given out by CODAworx which is a "resource to find and hire talented artists, creative teams, and the qualified sub-contractors that are experienced in the creation of commissioned artwork."
