There are a few new scams circulating across the state of Minnesota in relation to COVID-19 coronavirus.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office shared this news on their Facebook page recently, writing about a few of these new scams and warning residents to be aware of them so they can avoid becoming a victim of one. Here's what they had to say:

There have been a few different scams that have been popping up across the country related to COVID-19 and contact tracing. We have had a few scam text messages related to COVID-19 around our community.
One of the text messages contain vague data indicating you were in close proximity of someone who has COVID-19 and ask that you follow a link to fill out information. THIS IS A SCAM! Another scam that has happened elsewhere is a phone call from someone claiming the same and they will send you a test kit and ask for your address. They also indicate there is a cost and need a credit card. This is also a SCAM!
If in fact you are contacted related to contact tracing, they'll have information for you and won't have to ask questions like seeking payment. Never give someone your credit card information over the phone if they claim to be doing contact tracing. That is not part of the process.
Sadly, it seems scammers are STILL not slowing down amid the pandemic. Take note of what the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office has to say and so you don't become a victim of a scam during these already trying times. Beltrami County is located in Northern Minnesota.

There have been many scams in relation to COVID-19 since it began earlier this year. The Better Business Bureau warned of a fake antibody scam and told everyone to be cautious.
