According to a  criminal complaint on June 27, a little after 11 am, officers arrived on the scene to find people standing in the median on Hwy 3 in Rice County Minnesota. A man identified as 52-year-old Leslie Shawn Sanders of Faribault was seen yelling at people gathered around the scene.

According to Bring Me The News, witnesses say Sanders got out of his vehicle with it still rolling and approached the driver's side of a Chevy Equinox, and started punching an elderly gentleman repeatedly in the face. Apparently, Sander's vehicle collided with the victim's vehicle 79-year-old Larry Myers also of Faribault.

Myers was conscious at the time the police arrived and told officers what happened. Multiple witnesses stated that Myers never hit back and was seated in his vehicle the entire time. Myers was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis where medical records showed that " Myers suffered fractures below both eyes, a fractured nose, lacerations in his mouth and to the forehead, and tears on his skin on the right side of his face and left arm and hand."

Myer's daughter also stated that her father was on a breathing tube, unconscious and Doctors suspected he may also have been suffering from a brain bleed. It was decided that Myers would not recover from his injuries and according to his end-of-life instructions he was taken off life support nine days after the incident on July 6.

According to his obituary, he had served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  Sanders has been charged with one count of second-degree murder without intent and one count of third-degree assault. He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 27.

Such a senseless act of violence against this poor elderly man, and the accident was not even his fault. It just goes to show how quickly things can escalate and in a moment of rage, you can tale another man's life and ruin the rest of yours in the process. Such a tragedy.
