New Global Sports Fashion Retail Store Now Open In Duluth, MN

In 2025, several U.S. retail stores closed, with estimates ranging from over 8,000 to 15,000 locations shutting down as major chains like Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenney, Eddie Bauer, Nordstrom, Rite Aid, Joann, and Party City adjusted store footprints, filed for bankruptcy, or shifted focus due to e-commerce for a variety of reasons.

However, it wasn't all bad news as reports indicate that last year was a mixed-to-positive year for the retail industry, which saw solid overall growth (2.7%–3.7% forecast increase) and record-high investment in physical retail properties ($66.2+ billion).

There has certainly been mixed news as of late for the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth, Minnesota. Recent disappointing news included the closing of national retailers FYE (For Your Entertainment), which had been open in Duluth for over 9 years, and Eddie Bauer, which closed in early 2026.

However, there was plenty of good news too, including the opening of Cinnabon, Mythic Mercantile, Auntie Anne's, Perfumania, and Windsor, a fashion destination for women’s apparel, accessories, and special occasion wear.

More good news arrived in April with the opening of another new store inside the Miller Hill Mall.

Global Sports Fashion Retailer Has Opened In Duluth

JD Sports is a global retailer that specializes in "sports fashion," selling branded athletic footwear, apparel, and accessories from top brands including Nike, Adidas, and Jordan, alongside its own private labels, operating globally both in-store and online.

Late last year, the Miller Hill Mall announced that JD Sports would be opening in the mall sometime in 2026, "conveniently situated near the Food Court." That day officially arrived on Saturday, April 25.

The Miller Hill Mall issued a press release to announce the good news, stating that "JD Sports brings an elevated shopping experience to visitors seeking the latest in sportswear and street fashion."
