Jayme Closs Makes First Public Appearance While Receiving Hero Award
Jayme Closs has made her first public appearance since being kidnapped last year and returning to safety in early January.
The teen was seen for the first time on Wednesday (May 15) in Wisconsin, where she was honored with the 'Hometown Hero' award. The award was given to her by the Wisconsin Assembly.
According to WCCO News out of Minneapolis, Jayme was there Wednesday with friends and family. The news outlet reports that "her aunt, Jen Smith, accepted the award" on her behalf, who said that Jayme's "bravery and spirit" are inspiring.
WDIO reports that Jayme did not speak while being honored.
This case made national news last October, when her parents were found murdered in their home in Barron, Wisconsin. An Amber Alert was issued for Jayme to no avail. She was held captive by a man in Gordon before eventually fleeing to safety in early January.
Her case gripped the attention of those around the world. She was featured on the cover of magazines, was the subject of national newsmagazines and headlines and was even honored with a performance on 'The Voice' during her disappearance.
I am happy to see her looking happy and healthy. She is certainly worthy of the award.
