Minnesota Cold Cases Go Digital: Can You Help Solve Them?
With some help from a federal grant, one Minnesota County is taking another crack at some long-standing cold cases.
25 cold cases are being featured on a new website launched by Anoka County, the cold cases go back to as far as 1965, and as recent as 2022. The county hope the added attention and resources will help solve these crimes.

The grant money from the United States Department of Justice allowed Anoka County to create a Cold Case Homicide Unit, giving them a dedicated homicide detective and forensic expert reviewing these and other cold cases in an effort to solve them once and for all.
The new website was announced and launched on the anniversary of one of the cold cases featured on the new site. Mort Siwe, 20, was found dead on October 17th, 2020 in Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area near Wyoming, MN. Siwe suffered serve head trauma and while several leads were generated, no charges were ever filed.
Along with investigating cold cases, the new unit is also "developing cold case investigation protocols and procedures." The cold case unit is reviewing all unsolved cases and prioritizing them, while also re-examining evidence to determine if it can advance the investigations.
One of the most notable cold cases featured is that of 17-year-old Barbara Sue Frost, she was found stabbed multiple times in a ditch near a sod field in East Bethel in 1985. While there were persons of interest developed in the case, no charges were ever filed.
