A heads up if you live or work in Grand Marais or happen to be visiting, there is a planned power outage scheduled for customers of the city's public utilities for a few hours.
The City of Grand Marais' Facebook page shared details today (August 15) about a planned outage for the Northern Minnesota town that is expected to last a few hours next week, which will allow crews to complete some work.
The good news is that city officials have planned the outage at a time that shouldn't be an inconvenience for most people, though it will keep work crews up late in order to get the work done without directly impacting too many people's lives in the Grand Marais area.
The planned outage is scheduled for early Tuesday morning, August 19, 2025. The notice to customers says the planned outage is scheduled to start at 2:00 am and is expected to conclude by around 4:30 am.

The planned power outage is going to allow utilities crews to safely replace insulators at the substation that serves customers in the Grand Marais area.
While the planned outage is expected to be reasonably short (about two and a half hours) and should be concluded before most people are awake for the day, the advanced notice will keep customers from being surprised by a power outage early Tuesday morning.

If anyone has questions or concerns about the outage, city officials encourage individuals to contact the City of Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission at 218-387-1848.
