All anyone is talking about is ICE in Minnesota, and there's a lot of misinformation going around. I've been trying to stay neutral in this situation because I honestly don't know who to believe in this hot political topic. I have not seen ICE or had an encounter with them.

Rumors and Reality: ICE in Duluth

When I saw a Facebook post that 40 ICE agents are coming to Duluth, I had to find out if it was real. So far, it doesn't appear to be. It wouldn't be the first time we had ICE agents in town. We also have the Border Patrol with an office in Duluth because we are a shipping hub and have an international airport.

Tracking ICE Activity: A Resource for Residents

I found a website online that shares user-submitted reports of ICE agents across the country. Minnesota is lit up like a Christmas tree on the map, with most of the encounters being in the Twin Cities metro area.

The website iceout.org tracks reports under different types such as critical, active, observed, or other. Users submit photos, sometimes videos, and time reports of their encounters. It also allows users to submit if someone was arrested.

This information has not been verified by law enforcement and should be treated as unconfirmed public reports.

Fair warning, if you watch some of the videos, there is a lot of profanity (from both ICE and protestors) and could be graphic content.

What legal rights do individuals have if they encounter ICE agents?

The office of the Minnesota Attorney General has issued guidelines for your rights as a citizen if you are encountered by ICE. You have the right to remain silent, the right to an attorney, and the right to know why you are being stopped or arrested.
