East Coast Surfers Travel To Great Lakes For Winter Surfing
Do you remember the bomb cyclone that hit the Great Lakes a few weeks ago? It brough hurrican force winds to the Great Lakes, with wave heights over 30 feet on Lake Superior. There were even tornado warnings in Chicago in the middle of winter. It was a crazy weather event, but not nearly as crazy as these guys who decided to travel to the Midwest to surf the "swell of a lifetime."
Surfer, musician, and content creator Ben Gravy and a group of friends traveled to the Great Lakes for the 30-year storm. It was a long, exhausting trip full of delays and issues. After all, they were traveling in a 30-year storm.

Ben's from the East Coast, and the first leg of the trip was a flight to Chicago. There were many delays, and ultimately Ben spent 17 hours at the O'Hare Airport. (Been there, man...). From there, they were able to finally get on a delayed flight to the "Great Lakes." They don't say specifically where they go, but my guess is it's the UP of Michigan. I noticed a Michigan license plate on their pickup truck.
Problems continued once they got to their hotel. Some of their luggage and surfboards didn't arrive until late at night. The next morning, the power was out at the hotel, but they still found their way to the lake and jumped in with their dry suits.
They spent three hours surfing before calling it a day. As someone who lives here, I find it strange to think about going through all of that hassle to jump into the Great Lakes. But, more power to them. It made a great video!
