Is It Illegal To Honk Your Horn For In Minnesota For No Reason?
I feel like people have more road rage than ever these days! I find people tailing me and going in and out of lanes to speed through traffic.
Even I am guilty of getting a little impatient at times! However, there are times when you have to honk your horn while on the road to keep someone from hitting you or causing an accident.

Some people are apprehensive to use their horn at all, even in these situations. Then there are those people that use it constantly and sometimes for no reason other than to be funny.
Are you one of those people? If you are, you may want to reconsider your method, because there's actually a statute all about this in Minnesota!
According to Section 169.68, you should not be using your horn unless it is necessary. I am not sure why someone would use it unless they didn't need to but I am sure this scenario does pop up.

Here's exactly what the statute says, in case you're curious.
The driver of a motor vehicle shall, when reasonably necessary to insure safe operation, give audible warning with the horn, but shall not otherwise use the horn when upon a highway.
It's probably unlikely that you would do this as you're passing a cop, but you better not do it just in case. Plus, honking a horn without it being necessary could cause an accident or injury.
The same statute also says that you can't have a siren, bell or whistle as a horn unless you are allowed to do so. The more you know, I guess!
