Help Support Our Vets At The ‘Nearly Naked Ruck March’ This Month
Grab a pair of hiking boots and pull your weight to help support our vets. The 3rd annual Nearly Naked Ruck March will be held on March 31st. The event benefits veterans combating stress.
Raise money for the cause then cap it off by walking along Duluth's lake walk. The total trek is ten miles. You will need to wear long underwear and carry a backpack full of weight.
The weight you carry depends on how much you raise. You will carry one pound for every ten dollars raised. For example, if you raise $500, you would carry 50 pounds. If you raise money in the thousands, you can spread the weight out throughout the team. This represents the weight our soldiers carry in the battle against combat stress, according to the event's site. Bring your own backpack. Any type will do.
If you are planning to take part, park at Bayfront Park Saturday morning starting at 8 a.m. Here you will register and pick up your bag. Plan on wearing warm clothing for this part of the event before taking some items off for the trek.
The actual event will begin at 10 a.m. Participants will hike five miles to Duluth East High School before turning back and returning to the original site. This will be a total of 10 miles.
If you are worried about the hike, don't fret. There are turn around points throughout the trail if you don't feel comfortable continuing.
There will be treats along the way, including warning stations, a bonfire, tents, bathrooms, coffee and hot chocolate.
If you are planning on filling your weight using canned goods, you can donate them to the local food shelf when you cross the finish line.
The cost to take part is 45 dollars. The cost covers registration bags, hat, t-shirt, challenge coin, insurance and advertising for the event. You can register here.
ALL of the proceeds will go directly to nonprofit organization 23rd Veteran which aids in the long-term transition for veterans.
