Great Lakes Ship’s Mesmerizing Video Goes Viral – Great ASMR
A Great Lakes shipping company recently shared a video of how they load 26,000 tons in less than 5 hours. I always wondered exactly how they do it, so I clicked on the video. Soon I realized that this is some pretty awesome ASMR.
What is ASMR?
What is ASMR? It stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. It's a tingling sensation people get when they watch or hear certain things. Call it like a brain massage. It's a relatively new concept in the last 15 years, but some people think it actually helps reduce pain, stress, and depression.
26,000 Tons Of Iron Ore In Less Than 5 Hours
The Interlake Steamship Company shared the video of M/V Lee A Tergurtha in August. The Tergurtha was loaded with 26,000 tons of iron ore in Marquette, Michigan.
They describe it as an orchestra of gravity-fed chutes that fill the hold. This cargo sailed to the Celevland-Cliffs steel mill in Detroit. Since it was posted it has over a million views and over 400 comments.
"Mesmerizing"
Lots of people shared how fascinated they were by it, and talked about how loud it must be in person. Mesmerizing is a word that is used quite a bit in the comment section.
Watching how the pellets pool in the hold and spread out is like watching a giant sandbox. Those pellets are heavy too. When the iron ore is mined, it's processed into taconite pellets for easier transportation. Those pellets are then used in the steel mills in Detroit to make American Steel.
