Friendly Advice, Don’t Bring Your Visa Card To Wisconsin DMV
The Department of Motor Vehicles in ANY state gets a bad rap. We all hate the lines, we hate the fees, and it's a place sometimes we just HAVE to go to. I get that, and I'm not complaining or making jokes about it. The joke is getting kind of old anyway. But today I found another frustrating thing: None of my cards would work for payment.
I checked the WI DMV website for acceptable payments. It said they accept most debit cards and the following:
DMV customer service centers accept cash, checks, most debit cards and the following credit cards: MasterCard, American Express and Discover. For online transactions, we accept most credit cards.
I thought for sure they'd accept my debit card. It's from a reputable bank (Wells Fargo). Plus I didn't have enough cash on me, and I NEVER use my checkbook. They are almost useless now, right?
So I waited in line, got to the counter, and was told they don't accept VISA or Wells Fargo Debit Cards. Who doesn't accept VISA? Strange, right? Even more so, why not Wells Fargo Debit Cards?
So I had to leave, dig through the junk drawer to find my checkbook, and return. Fortunately the woman assisting with me didn't make me wait in line again a second time. So some friendly advice: bring your checkbook.
