Grandma's Marathon and the Young Athletes Foundation made the announcement that the field of in-person runners increased from 500 to 900 people.

With Minnesota and Governor Tim Walz loosening some of the state restrictions based on COVID numbers. The numbers state that outdoor running events can increase groups of people from 25 to 50. So, numbers can be increased for starting lines. Grandma's Marathon races have been using "stagger" starts. Masks will again be required during the entire event but can be removed when the runners are racing.

According to a previous press release, the Fitgers 5K was limited to 500 people. Again, the race will now increase to 900 people, and the race will still be started in waves and include 45 people in each wave started 5 minutes apart. In the last YAF race, the Fennessy 4K started using waves with smaller groups of people. The race uses the time the people have once they cross the start line and then the finish line.

Marketing & Public Relations Director Zach Schneider said in the press release that there are less than 250 entries left. The 2021 race will follow a modified course very much like last year which follows Superior Street then London Road and finishes along the Lakewalk at the Fitgers building. The Race will be on April 17th and will have waves leaving from 7 am to 8:45 am.
