There's light at the end of the tunnel - even if that light happens this fall.  Officials with the City of Duluth are alerting the general public that work on the final stretch of the multi-year Superior Street Reconstruction Project has started and that part of the roadway has been closed to though-traffic.

According to details released by the City of Duluth, work has started on Superior Street - between 3rd Avenue East and 4th Avenue East as of Tuesday, June 29. That work has necessitated the closure of the block to through-traffic.  It's worth noting that the intersections, however, remain open to drivers.

The closure will last until the work is finished.  The estimated timeline for the project is at the end of the summer road construction season.  While traffic will be closed off, access to the businesses located along that stretch will remain open; the city will work to keep sidewalks open to access the businesses within the work zone.

When this work is wrapped up towards the end of September, it will reflect the end of the multi-year Superior Street Reconstruction Project.  The reconstruction got started in 2018, and has been rolled out in phases each year since.  While most of the heavy-lifting is finished, work crews are picking away at the finishing touches on the punch list this summer.
