The City of Duluth has added another Halloween event to put on your family calendar this year and it's one that had barely begun before the pandemic forced them to put it on hold.

According to the City, City Hall-oween was started in 2019 as a way to welcome City staff to participate in decorating their work spaces as well as City Hall. Then once everything was looking spook-tacular, they could their families, as well as families from the public, to trick-or-treat at City Hall.

After having to pause the fun for two years, they are excited to once again extend that invitation in 2022.

Duluth City Hall, located at 411 W. 1st Street, will be open for trick-or-treaters on Halloween (Monday, October 31, 2022) from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. City Hall-oween will provide a safe place for children to come in costume and trick-or-treat from each department housed in City Hall.

While the event is free to attend, there are some guidelines on what types of costumes are allowed in City Hall. Here are types of Halloween costumes that must be avoided:

  • No masks or items that can hide your face/identity.
  • No violent or offensive costumes.
  • No gang references or horror characters.
  • No weapons.
  • No costumes that demean race, religion, nationality, gender or handicap conditions.

The City wants to make sure everyone is familiar with these guidelines as those who do not abide by the City Hall use policy will not be allowed to participate in City Hall-oween.

The timing of this event is great in that being done by 4:00 p.m. allows the kids to do other Halloween activities into the evening hours. The biggest concern for parents will likely be just how much candy will the kids collect this year?! My kids better save me the Almond Joys!
