Renuity Names Minnesota Among Least Spirited States For Halloween

Halloween is basically here and I am sad about it! The post-October sadness hits every time November first rolls around and I am already feeling it.

I love all things spooky and so I absolutely love Halloween. I leave some of my decorations up year-round and put out even more when October rolls around. (Sometimes the end of September. Ha!)

Halloween in Minnesota can be spooky for many different reasons. Usually, the weather forecast is a little spooky so that might play into this brand new study.

What is the new study? It says that Minnesota is one of the "least spirited" states when it comes to the best holiday ever. Here's why.

Renuity Names Minnesota One Of The "Least-Spirited" States In The country

Booooo! Renuity released a list of the most and least spirited states in America by looking at a bunch of different key factors - and just in time for Halloween. They surveyed more than 2,000 people to see how festive they get for the spooky holiday.

They looked at how early people set up for Halloween in each state, the percentage of people who decorate in general for the holiday, how many hand out candy and how much they spend on candy, including other factors.

Minnesota Named One Of The "Least-Spirited" States For Halloween

Whatever the Halloween equivalent to the Grinch is, that is what we would be in Minnesota! We were named one of the least-spirited states in the country when it comes to Halloween.

Why did we make it into the bottom five? About a third of us wait until the week of Halloween to decorate (WHAT!?) and only about sixteen percent of us participate in Halloween activities with the rest of our community.

The biggest horror of all? About two-thirds of people don't dress up when they hand out candy. We have to step it up next year! The goods news is that we are one of the top states for giving out the most candy and king-sized candy bars.

The second annual Terror in the Depot Halloween party was hosted by the Duluth Depot on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in partnership with Townsquare Media Duluth. MIX 108 and B105 station staff hosted the giveaways and costume contest, with band Indecent Proposal playing through the evening.
