No matter where you live in America, every state has great places to live and areas that aren't as favorable. Of course, what constitutes a good or not-so-good place to live depends on the individual as not everyone enjoys the same things.

That is why there have been countless studies done about the advantages or disadvantages of living in different parts of the country.

A recent example is an employment report that listed the best places for jobs in the United States. That study ranked Minnesota a fantastic #3 for jobs.

There was also the notorious report this spring ranking the snobbiest cities in Minnesota. While you can take that study lightheartedly, you may think twice before moving to any city on that list.

So, where in Minnesota is the best place to move? A recent study dug into that question and you may be surprised at the result.

How To Determine The Top Move-To City WithIn A State

To determine the top move-to city in every U.S. state, moveBuddha looked at its most recent mover search data to compile a list of moves planned for this year.

The data used for this analysis includes searches made at any time between July 1, 2023, and March 3, 2024, where searches indicated they were planning to move at any time in 2024.

Only cities with at least 25 searches for moves both in and out were considered, resulting in three states (Mississippi, North Dakota, and West Virginia) being excluded due to a lack of sufficiently representative city-specific data.

They then also analyzed Zillow Home Value Index data, from January 2024, home averages, and U.S. Census population estimates.

The Top Move-To City In The State Of Minnesota

Once all the data was processed, there was a clear winner in Minnesota and it's not some quaint little town hidden in the woods, although it is bordered by the Mississippi River.

The most popular city to move to in Minnesota is Minneapolis. Minneapolis has an estimated population of just over 425,000. It had an in-to-out ratio score of 1.41 and average Zillow Home Prices from January 2024 were $302,690.

A U.S. News & World Report study ranked Minneapolis as the 94th best place to live in the United States stating that "Minneapolis has big-city amenities like museums and sports stadiums and an approachable Midwestern feel."

It goes on to compliment the for its "cosmopolitan downtown core surrounded by distinctive neighborhoods and suburban communities." It also says Minneapolis can take advantage of activities in all seasons of the year.

Another report says Minneapolis is a great place to live because of its "combination of big-city amenities, good food, history, and midwestern heart." It also states that the median age in Minneapolis is 33, thanks to a growing tech scene and a popular university.
