Fore! Here’s A Heads Up Before You Go To Duluth’s Enger Golf Course
I went golfing at Enger Golf the other day for the first time this year. One of the reasons I haven't been out yet is because it's been raining about every single day in the Northland. June hasn't been a golf-friendly month for the weather.
I knew they were doing some construction work at Enger Golf Course, but I didn't realize how much was actually going on. When we went in late June, the Middle 9 holes were closed, so we golfed The Front 9 and Back 9.
Enger Golf Course Renovation
It's been a long time coming, but work has begun on Enger Golf Course. Phase 1 started last fall and continues this year. Installation is currently taking place on 18 of the 27 holes. Additional funding from the Athletic Venues Reinvestment Initiative will make it possible for the last 9 holes to have irrigation replacement.
Construction is planned to be completed by 2025 with all holes available for play. You can read more about the project and funding at the City Of Duluth's Website.
Expect Obstacles While You Play
I was a little surprised when we got to hole 3 and there were workers and equipment 20 yards from the tee box. If you go up to the tee box, they'll move and wait for you to play. Still, I worry about shaking a shot and taking someone out.
The Course Is In Better Shape Than Last Year
I was in a league last year at Enger, and it was pretty dry. We didn't have much rain, and with the irrigation system not finished, it was really dry. At least this year if you can find a day when it's not raining, the course is pretty green.
Fewer Holes Open Mean Less Tee Times
Since the middle 9 is closed, there were less team times. It was totally full on Wednesday and we got the last spot, so make sure you plan ahead and set one up early.
