Duluth Native Wins Two ACM Awards
The wins keep coming for Duluth native Jordan Schmidt. While you may have seen Lainey Wilson and Hardy accepting the honors at the 2023 ACM Awards Thursday night (May 11th), he definitely did not go home empty-handed as the writer and producer of the hit single Wait In The Truck.
In case you didn't know, Schmidt is one of the most successful songwriters in Nashville, having penned a ton of massive hits over the years. It looks like this one might be the biggest one yet, considering how it has cleaned up at award shows so far this year.
The song was written with others, including Hardy, Hunter Phelps and Renee Blair. Schmidt also helped produce the track. While the tune lost Song Of The Year to Cole Swindell, it sweeped everywhere else and rightfully so.
The signs of the sweep were there even before the show when Wait In The Truck won for Visual Media of the Year, a category that was revealed on social media prior to the show. During the broadcast, it won for Music Event of the Year, where the crew behind the song took to the stage.
Both stars gave an emotional acceptance speech, with Hardy thanking Lainey for making the song what it is and singing it authentically. He thanked her for making people believe what she was singing about and said she truly took the song to the next level. Lainey also briefly took a moment to thank everyone involved in the song and dedicated the award to survivors of domestic violence. Schmidt did not take to the stage to accept the award.
It was a big night for all parties. Lainey Wilson took home several other awards, including Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year. Hardy also won the award for Artist-Songwriter of the Year. Both performed tunes from their latest albums and had a blast in the audience.
Wait In The Truck took home the award for Collaborative Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards last month, where the duo gave a shout-out to Jordan Schmidt and his involvement in the song. Jordan has written other award-winning songs, most notably God's Country, which won Single of the Year at the ACMs in 2020. Next stop: the Grammys?!
