Duluth Target Expansion Reaches Milestone with Opening of Wine & Spirits Store
It was just over one year ago that we learned Duluth's Target store was going to expand and remodel. In the story I shared on October 6, 2021, it was noted that they planned on expanding the store's size by approximately 12% while adding new conveniences for customers, including the sale of alcoholic beverages.
What was proposed and later approved by the Duluth Planning Commission was a 16,448 square-foot addition on the north side of the building, the side closest to Mall Drive. Work began in spring of 2022, with a completion date expected sometime in 2023.
True to their word, Target did begin working on the project earlier this year, clearing out sections of the store and moving things to new locations. To their credit, they did a good job helping customers navigate the situation and find the relocated items.
Dramatic changes could be seen within the store throughout summer, and by fall the Wine & Spirits area was developed just off the store's main entryway. You could see inventory begin to placed onto shelves as customers anticipated the opening date.
That milestone was reached on Wednesday, October 5 when the Wine & Spirits section was opened to the public. While they continue to add inventory, there was enough product on the shelves to welcome customers.
Inside you'll find wine, beer, spirts, popular seltzers, plus other bottled and canned drinks as well as mixers.
The beer selection includes local and regional favorites.
There's also a walk-in beer cooler so you can bring cold brews home.
Of course, for wine lovers there is already a nice selection currently in stock with more inventory on the way.
The Duluth Target Wine & Spirits store is open 7-days a week. It will match the main Target store hours each day, with the exception of Sundays when it will close at 6:00 p.m.
While Target liquor stores in other parts of the country offer same day delivery, shipping, and pickup options, those options are not available within the state of Minnesota.
As progress continues to be made, it will be fun to see the finishing touches be completed into next year not only inside the Target Wine & Spirits store, but inside the main store as well.
