Duluth Seasonal Road Closures Now In Place On 4 Portions Of Roads
As winter approaches, the City of Duluth is getting ready by implementing seasonal road closures on portions of roads within the city.
They announced this week that these planned road closures will officially begin on Friday, December 1.
According to the City, portions of Skyline Parkway and Seven Bridges Road are now closed to motorized traffic tomorrow, and they will remain closed throughout the winter season.
The portions of roads closing for the winter include:
- Skyline Parkway from 0.4 miles east of Glenwood Street to Maxwell Road
- Seven Bridges Road from Lakeview Chalet to Maxwell Road
- Maxwell Road from Skyline Parkway to Oak Street
- Skyline Parkway from 0.3 miles south of 100th Avenue West to the city limits.
The City points out that the first three road segments are located at the east end of Skyline Parkway, generally from the Lakeview Chalet on Seven Bridges Road to the Hawk Ridge overlook. The named segment is at the extreme western end of Skyline Parkway beyond Spirit Mountain, reaching the city limits.
It's a necessary inconvenience, but these roads will again be open to motorized traffic next spring when conditions allow. When exactly that happens is anyone's guess, especially since the Northland is expected to be experiencing a strong El Niño winter, which tends to affect both temperature and snowfall totals.

If that pattern holds, our media partners at WDIO-TV have predicted about 67 inches of total snowfall this winter in Duluth. That's a big drop from last winter when a record 140.1 inches of snowfall accumulated in the Northland.
