With the pandemic spreading across the Northland at an alarming rate, the Duluth Police Department has announced they will be transitioning to their emergency schedule.

They made the announcement on the Duluth Police Department Facebook page:

COVID-19 continues to have an effect on the safety of Duluth Police Department employees and the public. To ensure we maintain operational efficiencies, we are implementing our emergency schedule in a phased approach. The Duluth Police Department will be in its full emergency schedule by Thursday, November 19th as outlined below:
• Employees who can work remotely have been directed to do so.
• Investigative staff will be on three rotating shifts and will serve
as back-up for patrol.
• Patrol will work five days on with a built-in quarantine period
of ten days off.

As they make the transition, they say the will do everything they can to prevent the spread of COVID-19, while continuing to serve the City of Duluth. They also implore everyone in the community to follow guidelines set forth by the State of Minnesota Department of Health to do our best to keep each other safe. This includes wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, properly washing your hands often, and staying home if you are sick.

Pfizer's announcement that a COVID-19 vaccine is showing amazing results, and could be available yet this year, is encouraging. However, it would take nearly a month to provide protection once administered and it is not a cure. Therefore, experts stress it's important we take every precaution to prevent the spread of the disease.
