The Duluth Police Department and Fire Department is proud to introduce a new program for the citizens of Duluth and surrounding area.  It's called the Vial of Life and it's FREE! This program is a nationally recognized and designed to assist first responders such and Police, Fire and EMS give life-saving medical treatment to patients in an emergency situation.  Here's the details so you or someone you know can participate.

It's a program that will assist senior aged adults who still live independently and will provide an increased level of security should an emergency arise.

The Vial of Life is a one page document that is completed by the participant that includes their full name, medical history, current medications taken, primary doctor’s name and emergency contact information. Then, this form is placed in a zip top plastic bag which has a red and white Vial of Life sticker on the front.  That bag should be attached to your refrigerator.  The first responders will know exactly where to look for the Vile of Life sticker and your pertinent information.   You'll also receive a second Vial of Life sticker that should be placed on front door to notify them that you're a participant and indicate they should go right to the refrigerator for everything they need.  This is especially helpful in instances when the patient is unable to communicate for some reason.

Think about it, with this information readily available to first responders, they can start what may be life saving measures quicker than if they had to search for information.
