Duluth Police Chief Mike Tusken issued a statement on his Facebook page today in regard to the shooting in Duluth which lead to the death of a K9 officer.

Chief Tusken shared the picture below, which shows wounded officer Haller on the left, along with his K9 partner Haas, who is also pictured above and who made the ultimate sacrifice.  He also shared these words:

As a community, let’s put our arms around and show our support for Officer Aaron Haller, his dedicated K9 partner Haas, and our DPD family to find peace in the days ahead.

Officer Haller is home resting with family and Haas will forever Rest In Peace as a hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice keeping his police officer partners safe.

According to our media partners at WDIO, on Sunday, January 13, Duluth Police officers responded to a report of a domestic assault with a weapon at the 1000 block of W Skyline Parkway.

After about an hour of negotiations, the suspect began firing at officers.  The shots fired wounded officer Haller and killed his loyal K9 partner.  An officer returned fire and once police were able to gain entrance into the home, they found the suspect deceased.

Officer Haller suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering.
