Duluth Named One Of The Best Cities To Survive the Apocalypse
We often hear people in the Northland complain about things like the weather and the roads, but living here does provide plenty of benefits over other parts of the country. For example, did you know that Duluth was named of the best cities to live in to survive a nuclear apocalypse?
According to Realtor.com, Duluth is the 7th best city to live in should a nuclear attack on the United States take place. After the initial nuclear blast, which would wipe out major cities (so long Kardashiens!), those left standing would need water supplies to continue to survive.
Duluth scores very high by having many residences with lakes, ponds and wells (for drinking water). Other criteria used in this study were:
- Percentage of listings with a safe room or panic room
- Percentage listings with a bunker, fallout shelter, or underground shelter
- Percentage of listings with solar panels or hydropower (to fuel your home if the grid goes dark)
- Population density
- Percentage of active military and federal government employees (nuke targets)
- Percentage of health care workers
- Percentage of manufacturing workers (more nuke targets)
- State gun score (tracking the ability to stockpile weapons)
- Percentage of landmass covered by fresh water
Duluth scored even higher on the list of best cities to live in to survive a zombie apocalypse, coming in at #6.
In case you were wondering, the worst city to live in should devastation arrive is New York City.
