Duluth Gets A Shoutout In New 'Only Murders In The Building'

'Only Murders In The Building', which streams on Hulu, is one of my favorite shows to watch. As a big fan of both Steve Martin and Martin Short, I'd watch it even if it wasn't as good as it is. Selena Gomez is a perfect partner for them in this series.

The first two seasons of the engaging murder mystery/comedy have also had a great number of special guest stars like Shirley MacLaine Tina Fey, Jane Lynch, Sting, and Amy Schumer.

Now, Season 3 has begun and the impressive list of special guest stars continues to grow, highlighted by three-time Academy Award-winner Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd already in the mix.

Unlike other shows, when a new season of 'Only Murders In The Building' comes out, it's not all released at once. While you could binge the first two seasons to get caught up, episodes in new seasons come out the good old-fashioned way, one at a time.

This week, the third episode of Season 3 aired and early on in the show, Duluth earned a shoutout. The episode is titled "Grab Your Hankies", and just over 5 minutes in, Martin Short's character Oliver Putnam, a director with a hilariously questionable track record, wants to turn his show "Death Rattle" into a musical and bring it to Broadway.

However, he is told by Linda Emond's character Donna, an investor in the show, that "Death Rattle" needs a show-stopping musical number to make it big. As she states her case, Duluth gets its moment of glory. Debbie passionately explains:

"That's how musicals make money. A song so irresistible it's like a syringe that shoots from Broadway straight into the neck of Debbie from Duluth, who becomes an addict from the first second she hears it during girls' night out at the Calorie Pit. And addicts will do anything anything to get her fix, even take a middle seat on a redeye to New York City where, for the low low price of everything she’s got, Debbie can have the privilege of sitting in the finest rear balcony seat in all the land to finally, finally see that show with that song she can’t stop belting out all over fu#@ing Duluth."

She then gives Martin Short's character a hilariously short amount of time to create this showstopping song, and the episode rolls on from there.
