Did you know that Minnesota has an elk population? There are a few herds in Northwestern Minnesota, but the DNR has noticed the population spreading. That means Elk have been showing up in parts of the state where you haven't seen them before.

Once you see an elk, it's pretty easy to notice the difference. But you want to make sure when you see an animal from the deer stand that you know exactly what you are going to harvest. What about those hunters who have never seen an elk before?

Back in the 1880s, elk used to freely roam most of Minnesota. Only the coniferous forests of the Arrowhead region didn't have Elk. Now, they have been spreading south from Northwest Minnesota.
