Today, Johnny Cash would've been 83 years-old.  The Man In Black passed away in 2003, but his music continues to influence artists from all genres of music.  In honor of the day, Johnny Cash is featured in this weeks Country Throwback.

The tough part is trying to figure out which Johnny Cash song to choose, since just about every song is a classic.  Therefore, I decided to focus on one of his final hits, which also showed how amazingly unpredictable he could be.

The song "Hurt" was released in 2002, and it's a cover of the hit song originally released by Nine Inch Nails.  Could Johnny Cash possibly cover a song by a rock band with any credibility?

It's Johnny Cash, we know the answer.  Working with rock producer Rick Rubin, they decided to approach the song in a scaled back manner.  Just the amazing, aged voice of The Man In Black with minimal instrumentation.

Check out the video, which ended up winning a Grammy Award and CMA Video Of The Year Award.  Sadly, Cash would pass away just 7 months after filming the video.
