Ok, I admit that I did a horrible job taking this pic.  I cut the Statue of Liberty's head off, but it's because I was trying to make sure I got the dog in the picture.  My apologies.  Little did I know that when I was taking the pic of my daughter Kylee as we were out for a walk near the harbor two weeks ago, that I'd be using it to explain where they will commemorate 9/11 this year.  Here are the details:

The Northland Veterans Service Committee, a committee of civic minded citizens who honor the service of Northland Veterans and service members founded in 2011, will commemorate 9/11on Thursday, September 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Statue of Liberty.  You'll find it located on Harbor Drive beside the DECC, across the street from the aquarium.

Police Chief Gordon Ramsay will speak on how the role of police has changed in a post-9/11 world. Fr. John Petrich will give the invocation, Captain Jodi Kiminski will sing the national anthem, and the Duluth Honor Guard will post the colors.

“We gather every year on the 11th of September to commemorate the catastrophic events that unfolded in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania in 2001 at the hands of Al Qaeda,” said John Marshall, Captain of the Duluth Honor Guard. “And now, in an era marked by the violence of ISIS, how do we respond? We remember and learn from our failures. We gather on the anniversaries of historic tragedies to honor the sacrifices of others before us, to ensure that our posterity

never forgets; we extend the olive branch first but always maintain the strongest military and pray that it is never needed; we support the service members, police officers, firefighters, EMTs and every professional who serves and protects all Americans.

The event is FREE and open to the public. In case of rain the event will take place inside the DECC.
