College Students Targeted In Circulating Car Wrapping Scam
If you have any college kids in your life or are one yourself, you'll want to read this.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, there is a scam going around that targets college students. As you know, kids in college don't have a lot of money and that's what these scammers are preying on.
Here's how it works: a scammer sends you a message saying they will pay you to simply drive around as you usually do. What's the catch? They say you have to drive around your mode of transportation, whatever that may be, displaying the logo of an event or product. Scammers offer between $250 to $350 bucks a week if you agree.
Long story short, the scammers send you a check to cash in order to get your car wrapped by a specialist, telling you to in return, pay for the service by money order, using Walmart's money services or by cash. The only thing is the specialist isn't real, your car isn't wrapped, the check you got sent is fake and you can't get your money back.
This is just terrible! The FTC says to be wary of offers like this in any capacity, never cash a check from an unknown source and never send money to someone you don't know.
Hopefully more people become aware of this and therefore, less people fall for it!
