Winter is here, and we're getting our first taste of bitterly cold weather this week in Minnesota. The National Weather Service has been posting on social media, letting people know the cold is coming.

Artic Blast Starts Tonight

The Arctic blast starts tonight as temperatures tumble to single digits. In Duluth, the low is 8 degrees tonight with wind chill values below zero overnight. Minneapolis is forecasted to see a low of 9 degrees tonight.

Coldest Weather Wednesday & Thursday

The coldest weather will hit Wednesday and Thursday. Wind chill values are expected to be -15 to -20 below by Wednesday morning. Thursday morning could see wind chills as low as -35!

Friday will also be cold, but by Saturday temperatures will bounce back to the 20s for most of Minnesota. Average highs this time of year are in the mid-twenties.

Dangerous wind chills

Be sure to bundle up. The National Weather Service reminds people that frostbite can happen within 15 minutes when wind chill values are near -25. Be especially careful and bundle up Thursday and Friday with those days being the coldest.

The National Weather Service Duluth office posted a wind chill forecast for Northern Minnesota.

The Twin Cities office shares that wind chills could be as cold as -20 for southern Minnesota.

Wednesday could see wind gusts up to 40 MPH.
