Camp Noah At Hope Lutheran Church In Moose Lake Helps Area Children Cope With Recent Flooding

Children, like adults, need special support to recover from losses following a natural disaster. They may have lost their home, their own personal treasures, a daily routine and friends who may have moved to another community.

Bring your kids to Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake, they will be offering a week-long day camp called Camp Noah today through Thursday,  August 23.  Activities are designed to help children process their feelings and fears, develop resiliency and coping skills, make new friends and offer support. Camp Noah will serve kids from first through sixth grade and all children are welcome.

This is a great opportunity for kids to interact with other children that have gone through the same ordeal.  There is a special curriculum developed specifically to help children recover from a disaster.  Camp Noah allows them the opportunity to  share their stories and develop important resiliency skills.  Plus, it's a day camp, so there's lots of fun activities too, like skits, music, outdoor recreation, puppets and crafts.

Camp Noah has been tried and tested.  It was developed following the Midwest flood disaster in 1997 when the Red River overran sandbags and completely engulfed Grand Forks, North Dakota and East Grand Forks, Minnesota — leaving 40,000 people to flee from their homes. Camp Noah has served thousands of children across the country since that year.

Camp Noah will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church, 204 Elm Street, Moose Lake, MN, August 20 - 23. There is no cost to attend camp and children may register onsite.
