Items That Are Banned From The Trash In Wisconsin
Are you doing some spring cleaning? Maybe you're a new homeowner like me and are doing some serious purging!
I currently have a ton of random things in my garage and basement that I need to get rid of but they are items that don't feel right throwing in the trash.
This includes things like paint and a few electronics that no longer work. That got me thinking - what items shouldn't you toss in the trash?
I know the rules when it comes to Minnesota but what about Wisconsin? I decided to dig a little deeper.

It turns out there are a ton of items that you should not throw away. It's easy to be lazy and just throw everything in the trash can but some items are actually banned and others can do some major damage to the environment.

To find out what you should and shouldn't toss in the trash in Wisconsin, I turned to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
They have a very handy page on their website that lists items banned from the trash, along with ways you can dispose of items you can't throw away and hazardous waste.
Some of the items on the list include, but are not limited to: brake fluid, carburetor cleaner, degreasers, transmission fluid, flares and empty hazard containers.
Other items on the list also include lighter fluid and mercury, which you probably assumed.
