Bagged Kale Recall Affects Multiple Brands

A voluntary recall effort for bagged kale is currently expanding, including a variety of different brand names. Listeria concerns are what's spurring the action involving distributors and grocery stores in multiple states.

According to details released by the United States Food and Drug Administration, no reports of illness have been associated with the bagged kale products or the recalled brands. However, the recall effort started with a report from a customer that the product they had in their possession tested positive for Listeria Monosytogenes. The products involved with the recall were distributed between 8/30/2021 and 9/1/2021.

According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, Listeria is nothing to mess around with. It can have serious medical afflictions that are both serious and less-serious:

"Listeria Monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."

Consumers who have the bagged kale products that are included in the recall in their possession are urged not to consume them. Discard the bagged kale product or return it to the store from which it was purchased for a refund.
