Seedling Planting

It's been almost a year since the horrendous flooding in our area last June and recovery efforts continue.  May is Arbor Month and May 15th will be Arbor Day in Duluth.  This year the focus will be planting seedlings and trees to aid in the flood recovery as we continue to rebuild in the Northland.

The DNR is partnering with the city of Duluth to get the job done and celebrate Arbor Month. You're invited to attend a special ceremony on Wednesday, May 15 from 12:30p- 2:30p, at the Chester Bowl Community Rec Center in Chester Park, 1801 East Skyline, Duluth.

This year, Minnesota’s Arbor Month theme is “Plant Trees for a Brighter Minnesota.” Minnesotans are encouraged to replace trees lost during the past year’s floods, tornadoes, blowdowns and snowstorms.

Chester Bowl was chosen because Chester Park lost so many trees during the 2012 floods and needs restoration. Students from Lester Park and Lakewood school forests will help with planting seedlings, and there will be archery lessons and music. An information tent hosted by DNR foresters, city of Duluth staff and other agencies will provide participants with information on tree planting, care and maintenance.
