Arbor Day Event Announced to Celebrate Duluth Tree City USA Designation
The City of Duluth has once again earned Tree City USA status and it's time to not only celebrate, but to share with the community how trees are truly beneficial to the city and have some quality time outside..
The Arbor Day Celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm to recognize Duluth’s Tree City USA status and host a tree-planting event. The public is invited to attend the event, which will take place at the Wheeler Athletic Complex located, located at 3501 Grand Avenue.
At the event, attendees will learn about the role of trees in Duluth and how they relate to the City’s Climate Action Work Plan.
- Hear about forestry projects and the importance of trees in our City!
- Learn more about Duluth’s Climate Action Work Plan and connection to our green spaces. Created in response to the City Council’s Climate Emergency Declaration in April of 2021, the plan outlines a 5-year set of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
- Help plant some white pines at Wheeler Park.
- Meet and talk with our City Forester, Sustainability Officer, Natural Resources Coordinator, and Parks Staff to learn more about our open spaces, trails, climate plans and more!
City official note that Duluth has been a recognized Tree City USA community for 31 years and has achieved the Growth Award for five years.
The Tree City USA program is an initiative of the Arbor Day Foundation. The Growth Award is presented to participating Tree City USA communities that have demonstrated an increase in levels of tree care and community engagement.
The timing of this event coincides with Duluth Climate Week, which is organized by a team of climate-motivated individuals and groups from around the Northland. Duluth Climate Week begins Monday, September 19.
