All-Night Graduation Party Returns To Superior High School After COVID-Pause

It's a sign that things are getting back to normal.  The All-Night Graduation Party is making its return for students at Superior High School, with the event planned for the evening of June 3.  The party this year marks the return of the popular after-graduation event after a two year pause caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Organizers are planning a complete, in-person event - a return to form.

Already organizers have started soliciting both volunteer help from parents and sponsorships and donations from the business community.  According to an article in the Superior Telegram [paywall], the costs involved in putting together a party like this are significant, but worth it.  And, the community really does rally:

"Local businesses have offered cash and items for the party, which costs between $20,00 and $25,000 to put on.  Donations have been rolling in since letters went out in February, and funds from last year are also available."

The All-Night Graduation Party has a long history at the school.  It also provides a safe celebration alternative for the young graduates. Amy Benson, the coordinator of the party explains the benefits:

"I think it's important that it provides a fun and safe place for the seniors to go.  And I feel like it's one last big event that they can come and hang out with their friends before summer and jobs start and they all start branching off and going to college."

It also gives students a chance to see the adults who volunteer at the party in a different light than maybe they're used to.  Community members, parents, even teachers and staff take the time to help out at the party and for some kids it's "a chance to see them in a different setting".

So what goes on at an All Night Graduation Party? That article in the Telegram provides some insight:

"The seniors will leave their cell phones at the door and spend 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM engaged in an array of activities.  A full roster of entertainment is scheduled, but...the lineup is top secret.  Activities are geared to include all students.  Highlights from past parties have included a hypnotist, chair massages, and paraffin waxes."

When the All-Night Graduation Party was held in the past, "typically between 65% and 75% of graduating seniors attend[ed] the event."
