The midweek snowstorm that had been anticipated through portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin is getting closer, and it appears that the forecast is not improving for the areas of impact.

On Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued one Winter Weather Advisory that included 16 counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

By early Wednesday morning, that single advisory had turned into three as it appears winter weather will now impact 18 counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin, with one area possibly getting 7 inches of accumulation.

Winter Weather Advisory #1

Here are the official details of a new Winter Weather Advisory that includes the Minnesota cities of Duluth, Brainerd, Aiken, Hill City, Grand Rapids, Hinckley, Pine City, Bigfork, and Walker. It also includes the Wisconsin cities of Superior, Grantsburg, and Spooner.

  • WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches.
  • WHERE: In Minnesota, Crow Wing, Pine, Aitkin, Cass, Itasca, Carlton, and Southern St. Louis Counties. In Wisconsin, Burnett, Douglas, and Washburn Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Bois Forte Band, the Deer Creek area, the Fond du Lac Band, and the Mille Lacs Band, East Lake, Big Sandy Lake, Hinckley, and, Lena Lake areas
  • WHEN: From noon Wednesday to 6 AM CST Thursday.
  • IMPACTS: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening commute.

Here are the official details of a new Winter Weather Advisory that includes the Minnesota cities of Ely, Silver Bay, Hibbing, Grand Marais, Two Harbors, Isabella, and International Falls:

  • WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches. Locally higher amounts to 7 inches possible along the North Shore.
  • WHERE: Koochiching, Central St. Louis, North St. Louis, Cook, and Lake counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation and the Bois Forte Band, Lake Vermilion and, Nett Lake areas. Other locations include Voyageurs National Park. The entire Boundary Waters is also included.
  • WHEN: From 6 PM Wednesday to 6 AM Thursday.
  • IMPACTS: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Here are the official details of a new Winter Weather Advisory that includes the Wisconsin cities of Bayfield, Washburn, Ashland, and Hayward.

  • WHAT: Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches.
  • WHERE: Ashland, Bayfield, and Sawyer Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Red Cliff Band, the Bad River Reservation, and the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation. Other locations include the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and Madeline Island.
  • WHEN: From 6 PM Wednesday to 6 AM Thursday.
  • IMPACTS: Plan on slippery road conditions.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Slow down and exercise caution while traveling. Call 511 or visit www.511wi.gov for Wisconsin road information.
