I was checking my e-mail last night when I saw our usual Tuesday evening e-mail from Nicole at Animal Allies. She always sends us the featured pet of the week that we will discuss on Wednesday mornings.

Her e-mail simply said:

This week we’ll be talking about Lucie!

While she’s not our most photogenic girl, she’s super sweet and ready to find a loving family!

I clicked the link and saw the photo pop up right away.

Those big blue eyes! As Nicole says, she has beautiful eyes, but they do kind of pop out at the camera. Lucie is super sweet, fun, and energetic. They love her at the shelter, but they want her to find her forever home. Also, people might be scrolling past Lucie in favor of cuter dogs.

I think Lucie is just fine, and cute in her own way. I have looked hoodwinked in plenty of photos before, and I'm not the most photogenic person either. I get it, girl.

Animal Allies isn't sure what breed she is. Their best guess is a Catahoula Leopard dog mix, but Nicole says this is the perfect dog to get a doggy DNA test. They aren't expensive, and you can find out their breed.

Lucie would be a good fit for an active home. She's just a year and a half old and needs her playtime! If you are interested, you can find her on the Animal Allies website or by visiting them at 4006 Airport Road in Duluth.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
